Immune cells to combat cancer, autoimmune disorders, and infectious diseases: Else Kröner-Fresenius-Stiftung calls for nominations for the 2027 Prize for Medical Research

Bad Homburg v. d. Höhe, June 18, 2026 – The Else Kröner-Fresenius-Stiftung (EKFS) is now accepting nominations for the 2027 Else Kröner Fresenius Prize for Medical Research. Endowed with €2.5 million, the prize will be awarded in Bad Homburg on June 3, 2027, and will recognize outstanding achievements in the field of cell-based immunotherapies.

Else Kröner Fresenius Prize for Medical Research 2027

In honor of the outstanding lifetime achievements of Else Kröner, the founder of the Else Kröner-Fresenius-Stiftung, the foundation has established this major biennial research prize to be awarded in a specified field of biomedical science. The field chosen for 2027 is “Cell-based immunotherapies”.

The prize amounts to EUR 2.5 million, of which EUR 500,000 shall be awarded personally to the recipient and EUR 2.0 million dedicated to the award-winner’s future research.

HEAL: To investigate the effects of endurance exercise training on systemic 3-hydroxyanthranilic acid (3-HAA) levels and other biological markers of aging in middle-aged adults - a randomized controlled trial

The aging process is associated with an increased risk of chronic diseases and a decline in physical and cognitive functions. Physical activity, particularly endurance exercise training, can counteract these changes, but the underlying biological mechanisms are largely unclear. The "HEAL" project investigates whether endurance exercise training mediates anti-aging effects via the metabolism of the amino acid tryptophan in middle-aged adults.
