Radiotherapy is a cornerstone of cancer treatment, yet its clinical effectiveness remains limited by damage to healthy tissue. Microbeam Radiation Therapy (MRT) represents a promising approach to overcome this fundamental limitation.

MRT delivers radiation in extremely narrow microbeams on a micrometer scale. Preclinical studies have demonstrated strong tumor control combined with exceptional normal tissue tolerance, resulting in a substantially enlarged therapeutic window.

Cancer remains one of the leading causes of death worldwide, underscoring the strong need for effective yet minimally invasive therapeutic approaches. Conventional treatments such as surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy are often effective but frequently cause significant side effects due to damage to healthy tissue.

After birth, the newborn is no longer supplied with oxygen via the umbilical cord and must start breathing. A smooth transition during this period is very important for survival without long-term disability, especially in very preterm infants. It is therefore essential to optimize this transitional period in order to give these children the best possible start into life.

Further information: At the core of the Else Kröner Doctoral Program “Schritt” is the study of upright gait as well as diseases and aging processes that can lead to gait disturbances and, consequently, to impairments in mobility. Within their research projects, the doctoral researchers investigate various aspects of gait disorders across different disease entities, including multiple sclerosis, osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, Alzheimer’s disease, and Parkinson’s disease.

To improve treatment success and thus the quality of life and life expectancy of cancer patients, new therapies targeting the individual tumor are needed. Innovative immunotherapeutic strategies, such as personalized vaccines or cell-based therapies represent promising approaches for the targeted treatment of cancer.
