IMMUNEPILOT: Dissecting immune-mediated pathologies across tissues and life span for targeted immune intervention

With the EKFS doctoral program “IMMUNE PILOT,” the Medical Faculty of the University of Bonn introduces medical students to the interface between immunology, neuroscience, and genetics at an early stage and specifically prepares young medical professionals with a passion for research for a career as a clinician scientist. In addition to intensive supervision, structured qualification, and international exchange opportunities, participants also gain access to an exceptionally strong research infrastructure. This includes the Bonn Technology Campus and the DFG Cluster of Excellence ImmunoSensation. This environment creates excellent conditions for training the next generation of clinical scientists.

The doctoral program is headed by Prof. Dr. Kaan Boztug (Director of the Clinic and Polyclinic for Pediatric Immunology and Rheumatology, Center for Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine, UKB) and Prof. Dr. Anne-Katrin Pröbstel (Managing Director of the Center for Neurology and Director of the Clinic for Neuroimmunology and Neuromuscular Diseases, UKB and Research Group Leader at the DZNE), with PD Dr. Michael Sommerauer (Senior Physician at the Center for Neurology, UKB) as deputy, as well as various clinician scientists and basic scientists, many of whom have received successful ERC funding, at the University Hospital Bonn.
