27 million people live in the poverty-stricken state of Punjab. Due to a lack of perspective and awareness, and inadequate health care infrastructure, many young people succumb to addiction or are at risk of becoming addicted. Their addiction becomes an additional financial liability for their families, who often already live in poverty and lack the means to take care of their own health.

In Ghana, there are an estimated 2.5 million people in need of prosthetics & orthotics (P&O) care, including more than 846,000 children. However, there is currently a dramatic shortage of qualified specialists to adequately meet this demand for prostheses and orthoses.

78% of Putumayo's population is rural and ethnically diverse. 95.5% of homes have unsatisfied basic needs. Hypertension and diabetes are within the 10 leading causes of morbidity in 2021. 19% of minors suffer malnutrition. The incidence of chronic diseases is higher in rural areas, where access to health services is limited. This leads to a worsening of pathologies, increasing the risk of disability and morbidity.

Numerous people in Ukraine have had to undergo limb amputation. In addition to the restrictions that an amputation places on daily activities, those affected often suffer from phantom limb pain that is difficult to treat. Under the conditions of war in Ukraine, it is difficult to provide the large number of amputees with access to appropriate pain management care.
In der Ukraine gibt es viele Kriegsverletzte (Soldaten, aber auch Zivilisten, darunter Kinder). Kriegstypische Verwundungen sind beispielsweise Schuss- und Explosionsverletzungen oder Brandverletzungen. Verbrennungen stellen sehr hohe fachliche Anforderungen an die Versorgung.
The award acknowledges outstanding projects which contribute toward improving medical healthcare in developing countries along with those persons from organizations who are responsible for the projects. The award is endowed with 100,000 euros. This year the award honors projects on the topic of “Child Health”.
The health situation of the Afar nomads is catastrophic. Since the end of the war in Tigray (2022), the Afar in Eli Da'ar have been left alone. National and international humanitarian aid deliveries have been stopped, the health system has collapsed, and 75% of all children in Eli Da'ar are chronically malnourished. Cholera and measles outbreaks occur annually and locust swarms destroy important grazing land.
