While organ transplantations and allogeneic stem cell transplantations have been among the well-established medical treatment methods in Germany for several decades, they are beeing performed in Uzbekistan since 2022 and 2023, respectively. One of the reasons for this is that the Transplant Medicine and Transplant Diagnostics are still in their early phases of development in the region.
Mozambique, a south eastern nation of Africa has one of the highest under 5 & maternal mortality rates. Lack of access to effective healthcare means high rates of deaths from malaria, diarrhoea & malnutrition. Malaria remains the greatest single cause of child deaths. At a national level, interventions to combat malaria have had significant success, but the number of malaria deaths among children living in remote areas remains high.
Situation:
Substandard and counterfeit malaria drugs and antibiotics pose a significant threat to public health, particularly in Africa. The rudimentary regulations governing drug control and the poorly monitored borders in Malawi suggest that a large number of substandard drugs are in circulation. This makes it difficult to monitor drug quality and increases the risk of the spread of counterfeit and substandard medications.
Zambia is a country in sub-Saharan Africa with a population of approximately 22 million people. For decades, infectious diseases were the leading cause of death—both in Zambia and in many other countries south of the Sahara. However, non-communicable diseases such as stroke and myocardial infarction have now taken over this role. The healthcare system is still insufficiently, and in some areas not at all, equipped to manage these conditions.
Following heavy bombardment of energy infrastructure, the electricity supply in Ukraine is unstable, with the severity and duration of power cuts varying considerably depending on the region and the security situation. The main problems stem both from direct damage to generation capacity and substations caused by missile and drone attacks, and from emergency shutdowns, which have been exacerbated this year by severe frost and grid overloads. Hospitals, in particular, are suffering from the destruction of energy infrastructure
In northern Malawi, there is currently no adequate neurosurgical care for children. Conditions such as hydrocephalus, spina bifida, traumatic brain injuries or brain tumours cannot be treated locally. Instead, children have to be referred over 500 km to Blantyre – often resulting in dangerous delays or no treatment at all.
Each year over 400,000 children are diagnosed with cancer worldwide with almost 40% in Africa. In high-income countries, more than 80% of children diagnosed with cancer can expect to recover from the illness. However, in Uganda, the three-year survival rate for childhood cancer is around 20% - 30%.
CGHP has partnered with the Uganda Cancer Institute (UCI), to establish the Paediatric Cancer Partnership to help improve outcomes for children with cancer.
