Parkinson's is characterized by both motor (e.g. shaking) and non-motor symptoms such as anxiety and sleep problems. The stigma of Parkinson’s plays a major role for patients and can be summarised simply as reactions of others (e.g. staring) as well as the
patients’ feeling in public. In this study, the scientists aim to characterize and understand stigma using their newly developed and validated „PDStigmaQuestionnaire“. In particular, they will analyse differences in stigma regarding symptom severity and influencing factors. Furthermore, the influence of advanced therapy, namely, deep brain stimulation on the expression of stigma will be investigated. The study is crucial for the deeper understanding of stigma and the improvement of management in future.
