Sense International Kenya is building the capacity of hospitals, local governments and communities in two rural Counties in Kenya (Kwale and Garissa) to:

Snakebite envenoming is a neglected health problem in Vietnam and particularly affects the usually poor rural population. Data on incidence of snakebite envenoming and the responsible snake species in different regions are largely missing. Antivenom, the essential drug for treatment is often not available and knowledge of medical staff about management of snakebite envenoming is insufficient. As part of the project, a nationwide study on frequency of snakebites is being carried out and will provide important data from hospital statistics.

The pharmacy training will be situated in a new housing area in Bujumbura and will provide more than 12,000 people with high quality medication. The tax free profits of this social enterprise will go exclusively to the local aid organisation Fondation Stamm to support their school Center Ecole Polyvalente Carolus Magnus (EPCM) where pharmaceutical technical assistants receive their training since 2008.

The aim of the project is to improve health care for vulnerable children and adults, and to provide quality health services through trained doctors, nurses and midwives in the three governorates of Erbil, Duhok and Sulaymaniyah. Health personnel are trained in obstetrics, gynaecology and advanced life support (OBGYN-ALS) as well as communication skills. For this purpose, six training courses for a total of 90 physicians, 15 nurses and 15 midwives will be conducted over a period of 20 months.

The focus of the project is a two-year training program for midwives and further training opportunities for predominantly female health staff in western Afghanistan. The overall aim is to improve skills and capacity build health workers to be able to respond to the dynamic health requirements of the population. In a country that has one of the highest maternal mortality rates worldwide, this project makes an important contribution in advancing medical care for women and children.

Many people come to the northern Indian city of Chandigarh to find a better life. Instead they experience a lack of hygiene, an insecure housing situation and great poverty. The situation is particularly severe for children and young people. The local partner of Jugend Eine Welt - the Don Bosco Navjeevan Society - provides important medical care for the underprivileged and marginalized people in need. For them the clinic on wheels is the only way to receive medical care at all.
