PROMISE - PROstate cancer Multiomics Integration for Stratification and Early detection
Prostate cancer is one of the most common malignancies in men. Early detection using PSA testing can save lives, but it also leads to unnecessary biopsies and overdiagnosis, as PSA cannot reliably distinguish between benign conditions, indolent tumors, and aggressive prostate cancer.
The project PROMISE addresses this important clinical challenge by using state-of-the-art multi-omics technologies, analyzing thousands of proteins and metabolites in blood in order to identify molecular patterns associated with aggressive tumor biology. These molecular signals are integrated with routine clinical data and imaging to improve individual risk assessment and support more targeted diagnostic decisions. In addition, blood samples from large-scale public cohorts are analyzed, in which samples were collected years before a subsequent cancer diagnosis. This approach will allow us to investigate whether relevant biomarker signatures are already detectable before clinical diagnosis. In the long term, PROMISE aims to support a more personalized diagnostic pathway that identifies aggressive prostate cancer early while reducing unnecessary procedures in men.
