Malignant brain tumors, such as the glioblastoma, are characterized by their therapeutic resistance and invasive growth. The deep infiltration of tumor cells into the surrounding brain tissue makes a complete resection impossible. In order to cure this type of cancer, it is necessary to track, identify and eliminate individual tumor cells. The immune system potentially can meet these needs. However, glioblastoma has evolved multiple mechanisms to suppress the tumor-specific immune response. Our goal is to better understand the tumor-directed immune response. We focus on characterizing tumor-infiltrating T cells, which are part of the adaptive tumor-specific immune response.
