In light of the increasing life expectancy and the associated increase in individuals with cognitive impairment (e.g., dementia), there is a growing importance to understand and prevent cognitive decline in older adults. The objective of the current project is to identify individual profiles of demographic, lifestyle and health-related factors that are collectively responsible for the maintenance of brain structure and cognitive performance in older males and females. It will first be tested whether the profiles are adequate predictors of cognitive performance. Finally, the generalizability of the results to other samples and over time will be examined. The aim is to lay a foundation for the development of new prevention programs for maintenance of mental health.
