On the basis of a pilot project between 2008-2010 the aim of the project is to establish a newborn screening for congenital hypothyroidism in the capital Vientiane in a sustainable manner. In order to achieve this all professional groups dealing with newborn infants in various delivery hospitals in the urban area of Vientiane will receive appropriate teaching. Laboratory measurements will take place in the lab of the largest delivery hospital of the country, the Mother & Newborn Hospital. Results will be interpreted according to establish algorithms in the screening lab in Vientiane and parallel by the coordinator of the project.
