Non-Communicable Diseases
The foundation Else Kröner-Fresenius-Stiftung is making funding resources available in the amount of 1,300,000 euros towards improving the health of people affected by NCDs (non-communicable diseases) in developing countries (in accordance with the OECD DAC list of countries). In terms of the subject matter, the call for proposals is open within the realm of NCDs.
Ukraine Relief Fund: MedAid
Situation:
Bulgaria has a high number of Ukrainian refugees from war-torn eastern Ukraine, who are unable to access reliable basic medical care locally due to an already intensely strained health system. State aid is regularly cut and resentment against refugees is growing.
Objectives:
Access to basic health care for refugees and strengthening the rights of refugees in Bulgaria.
Good Scores for the Else Kröner Center Würzburg-Mwanza
Würzburg, 17. August 2023 - Improving health care in the region around Mwanza (Tanzania): This is how the members of the Else Kröner Center for Advanced Medical & Medical Humanitarian Studies Würzburg-Mwanza could describe their goal. Funded with 2.5 million euros by the Else Kröner-Fresenius-Stiftung (EKFS), the center started work in mid-2020. The funding period is designed for five years.
Improving Healthcare System of Bogtan, Doti, Nepal (IHSP)
Situation:
Bogtan in Doti is located in a rural and remote area in western Nepal. Accordingly, the social infrastructure is poor. Therefore, access to mother - child health services are limited. Mental illnesses cannot be treated. Young people and their needs are not taken into account. Child marriage and taboos around menstruation and child birth are wide spread in the area.
Objectives:
The community people of Bogtan Fudsil Rural Municipality have access to improved and quality health services.
Health Project focussing on HIV-negative children in a HIV-positive environment during the Covid-19 pandemic in Lusaka, Zambia
Situation:
Due to the success of ART treatment, more and more children are born to HIV-positive couples. These children are particularly vulnerable with regard to their physical and cognitive development. A high-protein diet based on plant proteins was able to improve both growth and cognitive performance of the under-five children. With the current program, the target group of five to 15-year-olds was addressed and expanded to include additional factors such as hygiene and healthy nutrition.
Else Kröner Center for Cancer Care: Improving and decentralizing cancer care in Ethiopia
Bad Homburg v.d. Höhe, July 19, 2023 – The eagerly awaited “Retreat to Improve and Decentralize Cancer Care in Ethiopia” took place in Addis Ababa in early July. Ethiopian colleagues from the Else Kröner Center for Cancer Care Halle-Wittenberg/Addis Ababa, Ethiopia gathered for a three-day meeting under the motto “Moving into the 2nd Project Phase: Strengthening and Consolidating Cancer Care 2023 to 2026.” The aim was to discuss new strategies and consolidate implemented projects following successful mid-term evaluation in order to decide on the next steps.
