The scarring remodelling of lung tissue in several pulmonary diseases is driven by a number of signalling pathways in which multiple genes interact. Among, there are two pathways that drive the transition of internal covering cells of blood vessels (endothelial cells, endo MT pathway) and alveolar covering cells (epithelial cells, EMT pathway) into connective tissue cells.

Bad Homburg v.d. Höhe, April 23, 2024 - ForTra gGmbH für Forschungstransfer der Else Kröner-Fresenius-Stiftung (ForTra gGmbH), a non-profit arm of Else Kröner Fresenius Foundation, today published the successful track record of its latest funding projects. Since 2017, the organization has been supporting basic biomedical research projects in their efforts to accelerate their transfer into clinical practice.
The aim is to develop improved diagnostic procedures and tailored management strategies for movement disorders. The scientists hypothesize that impaired neurodevelopment, due to gene alterations, contributes to the development of the diseases that are in the focus of the project. The team will combine modern DNA-analysis methods with studies of supragenomic layers to identify a comprehensive view of disease-driving molecular alterations.
Parkinson’s disease is characterized, amongst others, by the deposition of a pathogenic protein in the brain. We recently discovered a particular variant of this protein that might be implicated in initiation and progression of the disease. However, the underlying molecular mechanisms of the formation of this protein variant are not yet deciphered. In a mouse model of Parkinson’s disease we would like to reveal the contribution of the potentially implicated enzyme using pharmacologic and genetic experiments.
