Loss of the y chromosome during PDAC progression and metastasis
Pancreatic cancer ranks among the most aggressive and lethal malignancies. In male patients, a striking genetic anomaly frequently occurs: loss of the Y chromosome. The project investigates whether this loss alters tumor cell behavior—enhancing mobility, adaptability, and aggressiveness. To explore this, the scientists analyze patient data to identify affected genes and proteins, and apply genetic editing to induce Y chromosome loss and assess its direct consequences. The aim is to deepen understanding of this sex-specific mechanism and its role in pancreatic cancer, with the long-term goal of establishing Y chromosome loss as a biomarker—informing prognosis and treatment decisions. This could ultimately enable more personalized and targeted therapies.
