Improving medical care for pregnant women and newborns in the regions of Atsimo-Andrefana, Anosy and Androy, Madagascar.
The project aims to reduce the number of preventable deaths of pregnant women and newborn babies in southern Madagascar. Specifically, the project focuses on (1.) improving the professional competence and technical equipment in primary care centres (Centres de Santé de Base) and reference clinics in order to improve the quality of routine care and treatment in the event of complications for pregnant women and newborns; (2.) ensuring rapid transport to a reference clinic in the event of complications; (3.) reducing financial barriers to the use of health services; and (4.) reducing the number of unwanted pregnancies through family planning measures.
