Health Project focussing on HIV-negative children in a HIV-positive environment during the Covid-19 pandemic in Lusaka, Zambia
Situation:
Due to the success of ART treatment, more and more children are born to HIV-positive couples. These children are particularly vulnerable with regard to their physical and cognitive development. A high-protein diet based on plant proteins was able to improve both growth and cognitive performance of the under-five children. With the current program, the target group of five to 15-year-olds was addressed and expanded to include additional factors such as hygiene and healthy nutrition.
Objectives:
Recognizing and intervening in malnourished children with and without cognitive deficits.
Height and weight percentiles, U-examinations, Increasing number of children attending.
Cooking classes with parents (mainly mothers), sustainable food from own production, health clubs in schools, biometric registration of malnutrition
There is a high sustainability because this project is implemented in schools and community posts. Mothers in particular take part and carry the project idea into their families. Government institutions are increasingly interested in the project.
Improving the nutritional situation through self-help and thus improving the health and learning status of children and adolescents.
