Free C – Freedom from violence and hepatitis C for women survivors of gender-based violence in Ukraine
Situation:
Four years of war have destroyed protection systems, displaced millions, and increased gender-based violence risks (about 2.4 million affected). Women, children, IDPs and marginalized groups face elevated HCV risk (8–12% in vulnerable groups). The national Medical Guarantees program promises free HCV testing and treatment but often fails in practice. Drug shortages and a 2025 funding gap (~€1.02M) leave many women without care.
Objectives:
Women survivors of GBV supported by 100% Life clinics in Kyiv, Chernihiv, Rivne, and Poltava receive uninterrupted hepatitis C diagnosis and treatment, leading to improved health outcomes and reduced risk of HCV transmission within their households.
120 female survivors of gender-based violence have uninterrupted access to safe and comprehensive hepatitis C diagnosis, treatment and aftercare at 100% Life clinics, thereby improving their health outcomes. 360 female survivors of gender-based violence, their household members and sexual partners receive information about HCV and referrals.
