Medical infrastructure development in Kherson, Ukraine

Organisation: Drei Musketiere Reutlingen e.V.
Partner organisation in partner country: Childrens Clinik Kherson / Administration
Aufbau medizinischer Infrastruktur Kherson / Ukraine

Situation:

Formerly nearby medical facilities in the villages near the city of Kherson have largely been destroyed, or the medical personnel have left the region. The only clinic that is still somewhat intact is located in the city of Kherson. The districts in our target region comprise several settlements. The population consists mainly of women and children, as well as elderly people. To restore basic medical care, the project members are setting up a double container in each of two villages for the treatment and admission of patients.

Objectives:

Following the successful setup and placement of the modular medical clinics (Health Points), continuous basic medical care will be provided for around 1,200 people at each location. This will particularly benefit the elderly, who will no longer be forced to undertake arduous and dangerous journeys to the nearest clinic, such as those in Kherson, which are rife with minefields, artillery and drones.

Indicators:

Each “Health Point” set up can provide medical care and at least basic care to approximately 1,200 - 1,400 people and approximately 80 - 100 patients per week.

Measures:
  • Container production
  • Delivery and on-site setup of the containers
  • Procurement of furnishings and medical equipment
  • Medical care provided by local medical professionals three days a week
Sustainability:

Even after the war ends, the containers can continue to be used for basic medical care during a transition or reconstruction phase in the region. Furthermore, should the military situation in the region deteriorate, the modular containers can be relocated and set up elsewhere.

Special features:

Given that medical care is largely absent in the region and that the implementation of the "Health Points" can at least restore basic care, and that the containers are mobile due to their modular construction, this can certainly be considered a special case.
