Bad Homburg v. d. Höhe, 22.01.2026 – Effective April 1, 2026, with conclusion of the current winter semester, Professor Dr. Dr. Daniel Strech (50) will take over from Professor Dr. Michael Madeja (63) on the Management Board of the Else Kröner-Fresenius- Stiftung (EKFS).
Dr. Dr. Daniel Strech is a professor of meta-research and translational bioethics at the Berlin Institute of Health (BIH) of the Charité. He leads a working group within the QUEST Center for Responsible Research that is dedicated to improving the quality, transparency, patient focus, and ethical standards in biomedical research, in particular through evidence-based study planning and the consistent publication of all research findings. “The EKFS is committed to advancing top-tier medical research while also supporting humanitarian projects that improve healthcare in low- and middle-income countries – and precisely this motivates me a great deal,” Professor Strech explains. “For me, this new role is above all an opportunity to reinforce and highlight these principles. I want to help ensure that innovative research ideas are not only generated, but also translated into high-quality, reliable research that has a real impact on science and society.”
The EKFS Management Board will in future comprise Dr. Tanja Dangmann and Professor Daniel Strech. Dr. Dangmann, who was appointed to the Management Board in 2021, will remain responsible for the areas of legal, human resources, investment management, and administration. Professor Strech will assume responsibility for the foundation’s scientific and humanitarian work as well as public relations. “I look forward to working with Professor Strech and to the new focus areas,” says Dr. Dangmann.
Professor Dr. Michael Madeja’s time on the Management Board concluded on December 31, 2025 with the scheduled end of his term in office. He will continue to be involved in the foundation through his work on several committees. “I would like to thank Professor Madeja for his more than eight years on the Management Board, during which he provided invaluable impetus to the foundation. Professor Strech will now have the opportunity to contribute his insights to further enhance the efficiency and quality of medical research within the foundation’s ongoing work,” says Dr. Dieter Schenk, Chairman of the Foundation Board.
