Bad Homburg v. d. Höhe, August 31, 2026 – Prof. Dr. Daniel Paech is the first recipient of a 2025 Else Kröner Excellence Grant to begin his work in Germany. The Else Kröner-Fresenius-Stiftung (EKFS) earmarked a total of €10 million for its 2025 call for proposals. A portion of this funding will help Professor Paech build up his new research program in Bonn. The clinician scientist, who previously worked at Harvard Medical School, has been researching and teaching at the University of Bonn and the University Hospital Bonn (UKB) since July 2026. His research combines cutting-edge metabolic and functional MRI techniques with AI-driven analytical methods to advance the field of neuro-oncological imaging. With the support of the EKFS, he is now setting up his research program in Bonn.

Next-generation imaging for more precise diagnoses
Prof. Dr. Daniel Paech develops metabolic and functional MRI techniques for neuro-oncological imaging and combines these with AI-driven analytical methods. Beyond anatomical imaging, these techniques can provide invaluable insights into metabolic processes and the tumor microenvironment. The aim is to gain a more in-depth understanding of brain tumors, which will in turn lead to more accurate diagnoses and, looking ahead, also to more personalized treatment decisions. Professor Paech strengthens the neuroradiology department at the University Hospital Bonn (UKB) with his expertise, creating new opportunities for collaboration with the University of Bonn’s established research priorities in medicine and data-driven research.
