A successful cooperation has evolved between Ukraine relief projects funded by EKFS and conducted by action medeor, a German medical aid organization, and Universitätsmedizin Essen, a foundation for medical aid under the auspices of Essen University Hospital in Germany. In the course of a press release in April EKFS had communicated its financial support for action medeor toward procuring mobile X-ray machines along with support for Universitätsmedizin Essen toward treating children suffering from cancer and for medical relief transports.

action medeor learned of the active involvement of Universitätsmedizin Essen as a result of the published release and subsequently contacted the university hospital foundation. Shortly before this the medical aid organization had received a query from the pediatric cancer ward at the hospital in Kirovohrad, where there was a lack of special medication for cancer therapy that action medeor didn’t have in stock on a lasting basis. The institutions jointly established the concrete need. Staff at Universitätsmedizin Essen were thereupon able to procure the necessary medicines and put together the shipment being financed by action medeor. In the meantime the medicines have arrived safe and sound at the pediatric cancer ward in Kirovohrad.

In light of the great hardship and the people’s problems in the war zone within Ukraine, yet equally due to the number of men and women from Ukraine who have fled to Germany, for the time being Else Kröner-Fresenius-Stiftung (EKFS) has allocated a funding budget of one million euros for projects in Ukraine or Germany. In alignment with the stated purpose of the foundation, the money shall be utilized exclusively for medical projects.
