The Hunger Project (THP) office has existed in Accra, the capital of Ghana, since 1995. Meanwhile the team from THP provides stewardship for 45 epicenters nationwide while accompanying them step by step toward self-reliance. The topic of mother & child health receives a greater focus at the epicenter clinics in Ghana. Accordingly, healthcare staff at the clinics is trained in cooperation with the local healthcare authority, Ghana Health Service, in preparation for childbirth, birth support, and children’s nutrition.
Else Kröner-Fresenius-Stiftung (EKFS) and The Hunger Project-Germany have been supporting this program for mother & child health since 2017. The second phase was recently concluded. This means that a total of 15 epicenters now benefit as a result and a maternity clinic was able to be furnished with an ultrasound scanner, measuring instruments and other medical equipment.
EKFS is going to continue to support the project during the third phase, whereby the program is intended to be expanded in the coming years to include five more epicenters. Once project financing comes to a close, the continuation and sustainable implementation of healthcare measures at the clinics is safeguarded due to committed involvement on the part of the Ghana Health Service.
