It honours researchers who made significant scientific contributions in their fields and whose work in the future expects to yield pathbreaking findings.

The prize is endowed with 2.5 million euros - one of the greatest prize moneys worldwide.

The Else Kröner Fresenius Prize for Medical Research was presented for the first time in 2013 on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Else Kröner’s death. Since then, it has been awarded regularly.

The presentation of the Else Kröner Fresenius Prize for Medical Research 2020 will be postponed until next year due to the repercussions of the coronavirus pandemic. The award ceremony is scheduled for May 31, 2021.

The announcement of the prizewinner for 2020, who shall be honored for his or her work in the field of “Genome Editing and Gene Therapy”, was made digitally on June 4, 2020. Read our current press release here.
